Sometimes It's Better Not To Speak.

If you were to discover something absolutely incredible, yet something that, upon mentioning, would encourage most of your peers to think you were absolutely insane, would you rationalize it away?

there is wisdom in the counsel of many. Sometimes the measurement of our peers can be an extension of our conscience and it is well to heed.

How would you take your own advice regarding what you believe though?
There are far more people who oppose Christianity in the world than there are who follow it.

I was under the impression that you were referring to those in your metron of influence..not the general public.(your reference to "the world") I am always a bit cautious to share certain details with general acquaintances, but close friends are sometimes a good balance for me to bounce things off or share intimate revelations with. And so in answer to your question, yes, I probably would rationalize it away to some degree...unless it was applauded and gave benefit to someone..then I might dig deeper.
